Following the last-minute announcement that Google will require employees to return to its offices in October to get the COVID shot, Tim Cook said the company was continuing to “monitor things on a daily basis” before deciding whether it ‘was’ the right answer or not’.
Earlier this month, we learned that Apple is pushing back the return of its offices to at least October compared to the previously scheduled September period. This change comes amid the rapidly spreading COVID delta variant in the United States.
Now that Google has announced that it will require its employees to return to the office to be vaccinated, Tim Cook has shared with CNBC’s Josh Lipton that he is not yet ready to make the decision, noting that his “primary goal in that moment is when to come back… ”
And giving a little more context, Cook went on to say that “we are monitoring things daily to really conclude whether this is the right answer or not.”
Along with this looming decision for Cook and Apple, the company is also facing rejection from employees who are unhappy with refusals to work from home.
Meanwhile, Apple has reinstated a mask requirement for the majority of its US stores.
Apple also sent a message encouraging staff to get vaccinated in a letter Bloomberg saw, but again has not decided to require it just yet:
“Apple encourages everyone eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccine to take it,” the company wrote to retail employees. “Please talk to your doctor and decide what is right for you. “
