Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard bring ‘undivided’ to Biden inauguration

Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard brought their message of unity to American televisions on Wednesday evening (January 20). The pair played “Undivided” for Celebrate America, a 90-minute special featuring a host of celebrities eager to celebrate the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

Tom Hanks hosted a special that also brought performances from Justin Timberlake, Jon Bon Jovi and Demi Lovato. “Undivided” was written by Hubbard, half of the Florida Georgia Line country duo. He wrote the song on his tour bus as he sat in his driveway, quarantined away from his family as he battled COVID-19 last fall. Talk to CBS this morning, Hubbard said he had the previous 12 months in mind at the time of writing the song.

“I didn’t think we might need more than we needed last year, but apparently we still do,” Hubbard noted. Find the song on McGraw’s next deluxe release Here on earth album, expected this spring.

The pair stood bundled up in the cold Nashville on the east side of the Cumberland River, with familiar Music City skyscrapers flanking them as they spoke – and then performed a song they both say is kind of mirror of – times of division. “Undivided” echoes the message of the day, which the two men acknowledged in a short introduction.

“This song is a message of oneness and faith and it stirred my soul,” McGraw said, with Hubbard to his right and most of his group around him for the nighttime show.

“I think it’s time to come together / You and I can make a change / Maybe we can make a difference / Make the world a better place / Look around and love someone / We’ve been hateful for ever long enough / May the good Lord reunite us / Until this country we love is not divided.

Earlier today, Garth Brooks performed at the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, joining a roster of artists including Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga, sang the national anthem at the swearing-in ceremony.
