Tim McGraw talks about how he really felt when Taylor Swift named his debut single after him.

It was in 2006 when Swift released “Tim McGraw”, which was inspired by the country singer. The song, which featured on her self-titled album, became a hit, leading the 31-year-old to stardom.

Almost 15 years later, McGraw, 53, admitted he was “a little worried” about the track when he first heard it.

“I thought, have I come to that age now where they sing songs about me?” McGraw recalled in a recent interview with Apple Music Country for Apple Music Essentials.

“Does that mean I jumped the shark a bit?” the star shared her chat with host Alecia Davis. “Is everything still cool? And then I realized someone told me she was in her seventh grade math class when she wrote the song, so it made me feel a little better about it because she was so young to write it. ” So I didn’t feel like I was that old. “

In 2007, Swift performed the song live at the 42nd annual Academy of Country Music Awards. It was during the ceremony that Swift first met McGraw.

“It’s so nice to meet you,” Swift gushed, greeting the singer and his wife Faith Hill.

In 2013, McGraw and Swift collaborated on an original song called “Highway Don’t Care,” which was released as the third single from her album “Two Lanes of Freedom,” People magazine reported. The track also featured Keith Urban on guitar.

Then in 2018, McGraw and Hill, 53, caught up with Swift on stage during her “Reputation World Tour” to perform her 2006 single as a trio.

McGraw revealed that he got to know Swift better when she opened for him and Hill during the couple’s “Soul2Soul” tour, which ran between 2017 and 2018.

“It was amazing,” he said. “It was just her and her guitar and another person. Just two people, her and another guy playing.”

McGraw insisted he was now “a huge Taylor fan”.

“I think she has such a unique way of connecting with her audience and her ability to write songs and her intuition is so amazing,” he explained.

“And I just think she’s one of the biggest artists to come in a long time,” he added.
