The Timberwolves have fired president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, owner Glen Taylor said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas,” the statement said. “As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and the city can be proud of.”
There are reports that team vice president Sachin Gupta will take over as Rosas on an interim basis.
In recent months, there has been growing discord and strained relations between Rosas, the front office and the rest of the organization, sources said. Wolves have decided to change direction now before training camp opens next week instead of dwelling on the season, sources said.
Other parts of the organization had some idea of the deterioration of basketball culture during the Summer League in Las Vegas last month, a source said. Taylor made the decision together with new owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, sources said.
Rosas served as president of basketball operations for just over two years and during his tenure he made several trades that reshaped the roster from the day he took office. Among his notable moves were the exchange of Golden State’s D’Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins and the writing of Anthony Edwards with the No.1 pick in 2020.
