Time to End Deshaun Watson’s Miami Business Rumors?

[ad_1]

The NFL media world was in turmoil last week as rumors emerged from Houston. According to reports, QB Deshaun Watson was not happy with the way the Texans management handled GM research. The buzz got even stronger when ESPN’s Chris Mortensen announced that Deshaun Watson would be considering a trade with the Miami Dolphins. PFN Insider Benjamin Allbright put an end to these Deshaun Watson business rumors this week PFN Quick Slants.

What PFN hears on Deshaun Watson and Miami

“I don’t think he’s probably out of place. All I was told was that they weren’t going to trade it.

Further extinguishing the flames of Deshaun Watson’s Miami business rumors, Allbright continued with information he received from a source.

“This same source told me that they weren’t trading Deshaun Watson at all. I pressed this person for a hypothetical. Hypothetically, what would it take to move Deshaun Watson into the void? He said it would take three firsts, three seconds, and a Pro Bowl caliber player would start the conversation. So the idea that you’re going to have Watson for Tua and a premiere and the like is ridiculous. It doesn’t happen. You don’t get Deshaun Watson for less than Jamal Adams. Deshaun Watson would need Absolute Cargo to get it right now. He’s not even on the block, and he has a no-trade clause, so he should give it up.

Three first round picks.

Three second round picks.

A Pro-Bowl caliber player.

Just to even start the conversation for Deshaun Watson. It would likely take a deal resembling Eric Dickerson and Herschel Walker for Watson to wear a different jersey.

Why have there been business rumors between Deshaun Watson and Miami?

The news first surfaced when the Texans hired Nick Caserio as their general manager. Reports have revealed that Deshaun Watson was frustrated with the team’s process for two reasons. First, he didn’t involve Watson as he was promised. Second, the decision was hijacked by Jack Easterby.

Allbright also discussed it.

“I spoke to people over there in Houston while this was going on. I will say this. First, the Texans organization claims to have tried to contact him [Watson], but it was on vacation or unreachable and it did not come back to them… All we hear is one side of the [argument] and I’m trying to give you the other side so we’re all on the same page. “

Another source of frustration was the lack of traction towards OC chefs Eric Bieniemy. Allbright said players believe Eric Bieniemy is the favorite for the Texans head coach job.

However, Jack Easterby initially refused even to entertain Bieniemy, as the Texans had not requested an interview for him. On the other hand, with new GM Nick Caserio at the helm, they interview a lot of coaches who have worked with Bieniemy, like Leslie Frazier. They might be checking her staff and trying to find out more about Bieniemy.

Allbright also refuted a report that Eric Bieniemy was not interested in the Texans’ work.

Headbutt in the Texans building above HC

Allbright explained how there seems to be growing tension in the building, beyond Deshaun Watson’s business rumors, about the Texans’ upcoming HC. While discussing rumors that Josh McDaniels would be the Texans’ next HC, Allbright got into some of the tension there.

“Well I don’t think so [hiring Josh McDaniels] is Nick Caserio’s call, but it’s definitely Jack Easterby’s. I do not think so [Texans Owner] Cal McNair wants this to happen. You must be thinking that he certainly doesn’t want to be called the “Patriots South”. I really think Caserio would be open to that, because he has a positive relationship with Josh McDaniels, but I don’t think that’s how they’re going to be.

Easterby wants one thing, McNair wants another, and Caserio is sort of in the middle. Allbright has also described the Texans’ locker room as “toxic” at the moment.

Allbright mentioned that the Texans are looking to put together a potential staff before they even embark on the interview with Eric Bieniemy. It might be a move to be somewhat sneaky with their coaching positions and staff Bieniemy’s staff before they get hired.
