John McClain has covered the NFL in Houston since the Oilers were here, and isn’t someone associated with throwing stuff out there to see if it sticks.

In other words, when McClain starts talking about the Deshaun Watson swap, it’s time to be careful. And now McClain talks about Deshaun Watson gets traded.

McClain’s column reads in a way that looks overwhelmingly as if it came straight from the Texans front office. They don’t want to trade Watson, but if the quarterback makes it clear he has without intention to dress again for Houston, the team may not have a choice.

Really, when was the last time you saw such a detailed trade speculation article like this?

The Jets could start with [Sam] Darnold, their first round picks this year (second and 23rd overall) and their first and second round picks in 2022. It would be three, one two, Darnold and possibly defensive end Quinnen Williams.

This is not the first time that Williams’s name has appeared in business rumors, to the point that it go out publicly and said he would be disappointed to be traded and wanted to play his entire career in New York City. Yet the nature of the report – Darnold, Very Specific Choices, and “maybe” Williams – is a level of proposition that is typically discussed on a bulletin board or radio caller, and not from a serious columnist who presents a similar scenario for dolphins.

John McClain is not the type to start rumors for no reason.

The way to translate this is that, most likely, McClain received information from inside the Texan organization as to what they would be looking for when they began to actively seek to do business with Watson, if not. not already.

It is not about someone coming out on a branch. When McClain writes that it’s time for Texans to listen to the offers for Watson, that means it’s time for us to really start giving credit to the idea that Watson will truly be traded.
