It’s Times Square on New Years Eve like you’ve never seen it before.
The Crossroads of the World turned into a strange ghost town on Thursday, as officials closed the area to revelers due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
As the final hours of 2020 passed, the NYPD blocked public access to the site known the world over for its reveler-filled New Years celebrations.
A live video stream from the Reuters area only showed a handful of people moving – instead of the thousands who usually gather to watch the ball fall at midnight.
For the first time in 114 years, the spectacular New Years Eve in Times Square will take place without an audience.
Instead, a star-studded celebration featuring performances by Jennifer Lopez, Cyndi Lauper and others will be televised from the site for viewers at home.
