Timothée Chalamet is about to dip in chocolate and meet Oompa Loompas – he plays Willy Wonka in his early days and shows off his new look… which is… cool ???
The actor just posted a photo of himself on the set of this new movie he was cast in… simply titled “Wonka”, which is basically a prequel to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. Of course, that means we’re going to see a young Bill … and Tim gives us a first glimpse.
He shows TC in a suit, wearing a burgundy Wonka-esque coat, scarf and warm brown top. A second photo shows him looking for a tiny gift. The caption of Tim says: “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last …”
Waiting for your permission to load Instagram media.
He looks sly … a little mischievous, which is also pretty Wonka-y. It also looks like he’s going to rock his signature long wavy locks – so it’s certainly no longer in vain to Gene Wilder‘s turn as the main character that Johnny Depp‘s … who was his own animal.
Of course … you have to respect the fact that Depp / Tim Burton’s take was totally different – both in appearance and in expression of the famous Roald dahl character. Gene’s portrayal is the OG, obviously, but we have to say … the 2021 portrayal, at least so far, seems a little … simple.
That’s not to say it won’t be good from afar – it will probably be solid, given that there would be a ton of dance and music numbers… that Tim trained for. Plus, the guy has chops … although it will be a new role for him unlike any other he has taken on.
Most of his film parts so far have been dramatic and relatively low-key (ish) – and he hasn’t had a chance to get wacky or delusional … which you would definitely think he should be here. Gene did it to perfection, Depp held on – now Tim is up to the task.
The word is … Warner Bros. (who also distributed the Burton movie) had Timmy in mind for this project for a while, and eventually locked him up after many planning issues. So they obviously see something in him.
No pressure … just years of legacy and high expectations. Good luck, man !!!
