Canadian prosecutors will not initiate criminal charges against Hollywood actor Timothy Hutton after a former Canadian model and former child actor claimed to have raped her in 1983 when she was 14. Hollywood journalist has learned.

Sera Johnston filed a criminal complaint with Vancouver Police in late 2019 regarding the alleged incident that occurred while Hutton was filming the 1984 film Ice man, directed by Fred Schepisi, in Vancouver. Johnston claimed she met the actor while she was with three friends and they were invited back to the Hutton Hotel in Vancouver, where they were served drinks. Then, Johnston claimed, Hutton raped her while a friend watched.
Two years ago, Hutton’s lawyers said BuzzFeed News, who first reported the allegations, that the actor “completely and unequivocally denies” the story, that he never met Johnston and that he was the subject of an attempted extortion.
The age of consent in Canada is 16 now, but it was 14 in 1983. There is no statute of limitations for allegations of sexual assault, misconduct or assault and battery in Canada .
Hutton won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1981 for his role in Ordinary people. His other credits include Netflix The Haunting of Hill House, ABC How to get away with a murder and that of Amazon Jack Ryan by Tom Clancy.
