It looks like Tinder is getting into the streaming game with the goal of helping you match up with potential dates.
Citing sources close to the company's plans, Reuters announced Monday that Match Group, Tinder's parent company, had completed in August a multi-episode TV series in an "apocalyptic" setting, although the details of the mystery series are missing. A source told the point of sale that the series involves a romantic relationship, but Reuters reported that the scenario was only a minor plot.
Also quoting people familiar with the project, Variety reported Tuesday that the alleged series of six episodes would use a free choice model and focus on the question: "With whom would you spend your last night alive?" spice!
You may be wondering why, on Earth, a dating app would like to be introduced on television, especially as all other businesses do the same. According to Reuters, Match Group hopes to expand its original content offerings and better engage its users. But Variety quoted a source as saying that Tinder hoped to exploit series selections to create an algorithm to match users:
Another insider close to the project said that Tinder had the intention of creating an algorithm based on how users make decisions within the series and then matching them to the romantic interests based on those choices. The particular point of view of a Tinder user on how a group of characters must spend the day before the apocalypse will lead them to others with similar takes, the thought continues, and then, perhaps, towards a first awkward date in real life.
I challenge you, reader, to name a more painful reality than a dating algorithm based on your streaming preferences and your behavior in the application. As if the Festival mode was not enough.
Variety further announced that the series would be streamed in the app (a left and right slide would obviously complete the plot) and should be broadcast on Tinder in early October, perhaps before to switch to another streaming service. Karena Evans, who made several video clips for Drake, would have directed the series, which would have a budget of over $ 5 million. Reuters and Variety said the show had been shot in Mexico City.
A Tinder representative declined to comment on the reports. However, a spokesman told Reuters that the company's plans for the project would soon be revealed. We all hold our breath, I'm sure.
