Tinker Air Force Base canceled events, encouraged employees to take a day off and evacuated planes at weekends in anticipation of extreme weather conditions.

According to Tinker officials, all aircraft were moved to secure locations outside the base to avoid storms, hail and possible tornadoes.

In addition, officials have authorized and encouraged Liberal holidays for all employees working on Monday, May 20, with the exception of those who are "essential / emergency weather," according to a press release. All the facilities at the base have shelters for the remaining employees, officials said.

The base also canceled its Asia-Pacific American Heritage Luncheon which was scheduled for today.

The National Meteorological Service has recently expanded areas that are very exposed to inclement weather, such as hail, tornadoes and floods. This includes North Texas and the West and Central Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City and Lawton.
