A local hospital is actively helping to reduce the number of heart disease and heart attacks. February is Healthy Heart Month and Door County Medical Center provides cardiopulmonary services throughout the region. Sarah Traeger, a clinical exercise physiologist, says that exercising a balanced diet is essential to a healthy lifestyle even after diagnosing heart disease.
According to Traeger, smoking and diabetes are high risk factors for heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in America. About 133,000 Americans die each year from heart attacks.
