Less than a week before the unveiling of his new album CeliaNigera superstar singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage is giving fans a taste of more of what’s to come – and this time, she’s got some help.
On Monday (August 24), Savage unveiled their new single “Temptation”, featuring pop superstar Sam Smith. With sparkling afrobeats perfectly suited to both her and Smith’s voice, Savage weaves the tale of a passionate but forbidden love affair, before handing the mic to Smith.
“The shape of your body, replay in my mind,” Smith sings on the second verse of the track. “The sound of your promises resonates with me deep within me.”
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Savage said that although she knew she and her team locked up Smith for a feature film, she didn’t believe it was actually happening until she heard it. their voice. “I literally got goosebumps because we don’t know how amazing Sam is. I was like, ‘Wow, this is amazing’, ”she recalls. “And it changed the whole face of the project. You know what I mean? Because that’s really the case with Afrobeat, not even just with Tiwa.”
The star also spoke with Lowe about how afrobeats as a genre have helped bring African culture to a wider and mainstream audience – an accomplishment she is particularly proud of. “It’s a blessing to live and witness both, to see how it went from not being cool to one of the most wanted genres,” she said. “And not just that, music shines in a different light on the continent … having huge legends like Beyoncé making a move like Black is king, and just shine a different light on my continent, it’s just amazing. “
