To All the Boys is about Lara Jean Covey, a high school student who writes letters to her crushes, but does not send them. One day, her younger sister pushes her out of her shell by sending the letters. Centineo's Peter Kavinsky is among the recipients, and he and Lara Jean conduct a plan to make others jealous by pretending to be dating.
Kavinsky was a relatively unknown actor at the time, most recognized for his role in the Freeform drama The Fosters. However, his role in To All the Boys put him on the map, making him a coveted young Hollywood star.
The film just celebrated its anniversary
To All the Boys first came out on Netflix on Aug. 17, 2018. So it's celebrating its first anniversary this past weekend. It's hard to believe that it's only been a year since fans were hit with TATB fever.
The cast seems to be grateful for all of the attention that the film has received. The movie's Instagram account shared plenty of behind-the-scenes photos in celebration, while the stars posted their own tributes to the beloved movie.
They have announced that there will be two sequels
Given how positively it was received, it was not surprising to many that the film would be getting a sequel. To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You was published just after the original and will continue in the future.
But there's more news on that front. Just days before the anniversary, Netflix announced that not only does P.S. I Still Love You have a release date (Feb. 12, 2020), but a third movie, TATB: Always and Forever, Lara Jeanwas made, also with a 2020 release date.
Centineo's message to fans as he wraps production
It would appear to be a hundred and one hundred percent of the time. In fact, given the timeline, it looks as though the two sequels were essentially filmed back to back. As exciting as that is for fans, who will get two new movies in 2020, it means that filming is coming to an end.
Centineo marked the film's anniversary with his own announcement: He has officially finished filming his scenes for both sequels. On Twitter, the actor wrote that he is "forever grateful for the opportunity." Centineo also thanked co-star Lana Condor and director Michael Fimognari, among others.
What's next for Centineo?
Centineo has been very busy over the past couple of years. In addition to TATB, he has appeared in many other Netflix romantic comedies, including Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and The Perfect Date.
You can catch Centineo on the big screen in the upcoming Charlie's Angels revival, due out in Nov. 2019. And for his next big role, the actor is gearing up to play He-Man in a Master of the Universe film, headed to theaters in 2021, most likely.
