The Eagles made the biggest move of the NFL draft process, dropping from No.6 to No.12, after trading picks with the Miami Dolphins.
Philadelphia gained additional draft capital on the move, and the organization essentially missed the opportunity to add Ja’Marr Chase or Kyle Pitts to the roster.
During a recent live broadcast on ESPN’s YouTube channel, draft insider Todd McShay had an interesting take on Philadelphia moving on to strengthen their defensive end of the ball.
McShay said he believes the Eagles’ attention may shift to the defensive side of the ball in 12th overall.
“I think the focus of Philly is now shifting to the defensive side, and the focus becomes, go get the best defensive player available. If it’s a corner, then it’s Patrick Surtain from Alabama, and if not him, it’s Jaycee Horn from South Carolina, or Caleb Farley, the corner from Virginia Tech.
“And keep in mind that they have linebacking needs as well. Micah Parsons, in my opinion, is the best defensive player in the draft class of this year. He ran in the 4.3s, he’s 6-3, he weighs 246 pounds, and he’s so exploitative as a passer, cover guy, and sideline defender. I think he’s probably going to be one of those four guys, around the corner or linebacker, that they pick at No.12. ”
The Eagles urgently need to tackle the cornerback position against Darius Slay and Howie Roseman could target JayCee Horn or Patrick Surtain if either is still on the board.
The move of all moves would be to add Micah Parsons to No.12 and finally alleviate the weekly breakdowns at linebacker against opponents going on the attack.
Parsons would present the Eagles with a sideline to the sideline that has become prominent on some of the best defenses in the NFL.
