Tom Brady forgets the rules of football after making an unlikely pass against the Rams

It’s not often that Tom Brady totally forgets one of the main rules in football, but it seems to be what happened Monday night in Tampa.

With just over 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers faced a third and ten. On the play, Brady lined up in shotgun formation and after taking the snap he tried to quickly throw the ball to Mike Evans, but the ball never reached Evans because he was hit on the line of scrimmage.

The twist here is that the ball was hit directly at Brady, who tried to throw the ball again. As soon as Brady caught the slapped pass, he put it back in his right hand and threw it again at Evans. This time the pass hit the Buccaneers receiver for an 8 yard gain, only the 8 yard gain didn’t count as you are not allowed to throw two forward passes on a play.

As the second pitch was illegal, the Buccaneers were penalized for throwing an illegal forward pass. However, the Rams decided to decline the penalty, which apparently created some confusion for the official scorer. At first, the game entered the books as a completion from Brady to Brady for a loss of 9 yards.

However, the official scorecard was subsequently changed and the pass is now counted as an 8-yard reception for Evans since the Rams disallowed the penalty.

The Buccaneers ended up beating in fourth place.

As for Brady, there must be something about the Night Games that is bugging his mind, as this is the second time we’ve seen him involved in a weird play in prime time. Back in Week 5, Brady seemed to forget what it was – AT THE FOURTH LOW – against the Bears and the mistake turned out to be costly, as Tampa Bay ended up losing 20-19.
