Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has been a teammate with Rob Gronkowski for so long he can read the mind of the tight end.
That’s what Brady said on Thursday when discussing pre-snap and non-verbal communication with his teammates new and old on the Bucs.
“I think we’ve definitely come a long way,” Brady said. “I think we will continue to improve. The more we are together, the more we talk about football, the more we try to be on the same page, the better. It’s a complex game – there are a lot of moving parts (and) there is a lot of coordination involved between a lot of different positions. I think the quarterback-receiver relationship is really important. The more I’ve been around Mike (Evans), Chris (Godwin), Antonio (Brown), “Scooter” (Scotty Miller), Tyler (Johnson), “Mick” (Jaydon Mickens) – the better. The tight final position, I’ve been around Gronk (Rob Gronkowski) for a long time – I know exactly what he’s thinking (and) how he looks.
Sounds easy enough, actually, although we’re not sure if we’d like to go. It’s probably just an endless stream of jokes out of a number.
“Cam (Brate) is a pretty easy guy to control too,” Brady continued. “We’re just going to keep trying to make improvements. We have a big test this weekend (against) one of the great teams in the NFL (which has always been one of the great teams for a long time. We’re going to have to go play a great game of football.
The Buccaneers face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 6:40 p.m. ET in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Brady Buccaneers beat the Washington soccer team in the Wild Card round on Saturday to advance to the playoffs.
Brady was 22 of 40 for 381 yards with two touchdowns in Saturday’s 31-23 win. Gronkowski had no hold on a target.
