Tom Hanks to receive Golden Globes Lifetime Achievement Award

Tom Hanks will be honored with an Award of Excellence for overall achievements at the Golden Globe Awards next year.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) said it was "proud" to hand over the 2020 Cecil B DeMille Award to the event on Jan. 5.

Hanks won two Oscars and Golden Globes two by two for his lead roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

The HFPA stated that they had "grown to love and admire" this 63-year-old woman.

"For more than three decades, he has captivated the audience with rich and playful characters," said Lorenzo Soria, president of the organization.

"As convincing as he is on the big screen, he is also behind the camera as a writer, producer and director."

In 1988, the actor made his breakthrough in the movie Big. He embodies a teenager trapped in the body of an adult.

The Cecil B DeMille Award is awarded annually to an actor, director or producer who has had a lasting impact on the film industry.

Recent recipients include Jeff Bridges, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey.
