A box set dedicated to Tom Petty’s 1994 album Wild flowers has finally received a release date. Wild flowers and all the rest will arrive on October 16.
The Super Deluxe Edition of the set includes 70 tracks, spread over five CDs, with nine songs that were never released and 34 alternate versions.
In addition to the original LP, the box contains a disc titled Everything else this includes 10 excerpts from the sessions, five of which were never heard. The third disc consists of 15 Petty house demos, with three of his 15 unreleased songs. The fourth CD consists of live versions of 14 songs recorded between 1995 and 2017, 12 released for the first time. The fifth disc, Find wallflowers, consists of 16 alternative studio versions. An 80-page book includes thoughts from David Fricke and Rick Rubin, rare photos, and track-by-track information. The packaging includes a lithograph, a replica of the touring program, handwritten lyrics reproductions, specially commissioned artwork, a patch, sticker and numbered certificate of authenticity.
The Deluxe Edition omits the fifth disc and a two-CD version contains only Wild flowers and Everything else. Both are available on CD, vinyl and digital, while the Super Deluxe will only be released on CD and vinyl.
An Ultra Deluxe vinyl edition adds a tote bag, a 7 “single from” You Don’t Know How It Feels “/” Girl on LSD “, a pearl necklace, and a lyric book with artwork. can get full details on all versions and pre-order at Petty’s online store.

The new collection has been in the works since at least 2015. Petty had originally planned to do Wild flowers a double album, but was ousted by producer Rick Rubin and President of Warner Bros. Lenny Waronker. A handful of the album’s leftovers were reworked by the Heartbreakers and found a place on the 1996 soundtrack. It’s the right one.
In 2015, let’s talk about an extended version of Wild flowers began to surface with “Somewhere Under Heaven”, which was included in the Entourage movie. A year later, Petty broached the subject again, adding the prospect of an accompanying tour with additional musicians to help interpret the more complex arrangements of the songs. Petty died in 2017 before the project could materialize.
A few more session clips were discovered during the posthumous 2018 session An american treasure casket, but a legal battle between Petty’s widow Dana and her two daughters from her first marriage for control of her estate prevented an expansion Wild flowers to release in time for the album’s 25th anniversary last year. These disputes were settled at the end of 2019.
Two demos of the upcoming box have already appeared this summer: Wild flowers‘debut single “You Don’t Know How It Feels”, which originally featured lyrics that later appeared on “Crawling Back to You” and “There Goes Angela (Dream Away)”.
