Vitek Vanecek was formidable against the Buffalo Sabers on Saturday.
After working in the minor leagues for five seasons, Vanecek made his NHL debut on Friday and stopped 30 of 31 shots, taking his first career victory and a shaving cream pie to his face. “The dream has come true,” said the Czech goalkeeper.
Tom wilson, however, think the statistics are wrong. After the game, the second-row right-winger explained why Vanecek actually had a shutout.

During the second intermission, head coach Peter Laviolette polished the lines of the Capitals to give the team a spark. Nicklas Backstrom centered Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson on the front row while Evgeny Kuznetsov skated with Jakub Vrana and TJ Oshie.
“It didn’t start so well,” Wilson said with a laugh.
Thirty-one seconds into the start of the third period, the newly-formed top trio conceded a goal on their first shift together. A flick from Rasmus Ristolainen made its way through heavy traffic and hit the back of the net, tying the game 1-1.
“He hit my calf and walked in,” Wilson said. “I think Vitek hasn’t had another team score against him yet. We will continue. He played a very good game. It was a bit of a shame that this rebound hit him.
Nicklas Backstrom added: “I was really impressed with how [Vitek] all managed. Very quiet there.
“At this point Buffalo has played a lot better than us and they really attacked him tonight. Looking at the game as a whole, he won the game for us.
