When New York Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich scored an empty net 35 seconds to go to give the Rags a 5-2 lead, Tom wilson decided that the time had come to settle scores.

The Capitals executor, who has fought 69 times in his career, first threw punches at Ryan lindgren, who had tried to punch Alex Ovechkin 11 days before, as the Rangers punched each other on the bench to celebrate the goal. After Wilson was separated by an official, he sought to chat with Brendan Smith, who had crossed TJ Oshie from behind in the kidneys a few minutes before. Once these two men got away from each other, Wilson skated passionately back in a semicircle to engage Lindgren again.

“That’s where he loses,” said Sam Rosen, the Rangers playing player. โ€œThis is where Tom Wilson crosses the line. He must be careful here.

Not wanting to calm down, Wilson was left out of the game, gaining 12 penalty minutes in total: a two-minute misconduct penalty and 10 minutes for his showdown with Lindgren.

Here’s another look at Sportsnet’s altercation that begins earlier in the sequence.

One of the dumbest aspects of the crash was that, while Wilson was held up by an official and near the New York bench, several Rangers players tried to grab him, push him and engage with him. him, including goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev.

Joe Beninati of NBC Sports Washington remarked on the broadcast that “Georgiev’s face mask would take a beating” if the two had fought.

As you might expect, after the incident Wilson followed a trend on Twitter as many Rangers fans had strong opinions on the winger.

Here is a general sample of the comments on Twitter from the Rangers side.

Capitals fans, including RMNB’s Chris Cerullo, responded in kind.

The Capitals lost four of six games to the Rangers during the regular season. The Rangers are the only team in the Eastern Division they have lost to so far this season. Luckily for Washington, they likely won’t face each other in the playoffs as the Rangers are currently five points behind fourth and final playoff spot. They played three more games than fourth-placed Boston.

But while the Rangers can pull off a big winning streak and somehow squeal in the playoffs, a first-round streak between them and the Capitals certainly looks like it has fireworks.
