Tonga Olympics flag bearer Pita Taufatofua is oiled up, shirtless and social media fades again

Pita Taufatofua was back at the Olympics on Friday waving the Tongan flag and once again blasting social media.

This is the third time that Taufatofua has carried the Tonga flag. He first caused a sensation at the Rio Games in 2016 and again appeared at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

On Friday, Taufatofua was shirtless, oiled and paving the way for his country. He walked alongside Malia Paseka, who competes on the women’s side of the taekwondo event.

Taufatofua qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Games in taekwondo. He will compete in the men’s +80 kilograms category of the event. His first competition is set for Monday against Vladislav Larin of the Russian Olympic Committee.

He burst onto the scene at the 2016 Rio Olympics when he showed his greased and ripped body in front of a packed house. It was the first time that the Olympics had been held in a South American country. He was eliminated after his first fight in the competition.

The bare chest returned during the 2018 Winter Olympics as he attempted to cross-country ski. He was the only Tongan competing in these Games and did not seem to be affected by the cold at the time. He finished 114th out of 119 competitors in the 15-kilometer free race.

He first tried to qualify for the 2020 Games in a sprint canoe but was unsuccessful. He would later return to the Olympic taekwondo team for the second time.
