The death of the former CEO of Zappos Tony hsieh was tragic enough, but now his family is shocked because they think he may not have written a will for his reported net worth of $ 840 million.
Tony’s father, Richard, and brother, Andrew, are asking a judge in Clark County, Nevada, to appoint them as special trustees of Tony’s estate. No shock there, but in the docs, obtained by TMZ, they claim he did not have a will in place when he died the day after Thanksgiving.
Tony’s family say they “are unaware of the existence of a fully executed estate plan” and “have a good faith belief” that Tony, who was not married and had no children, is died without leaving a will. The family requests access to Tony’s accounts and safe to see if they contain estate planning documents.
The family also say that a special administrator is needed to take care of Tony’s “obligations and business commitments that require funding from assets that are currently frozen.”
Forbes estimated Tony had a net worth of $ 840 million before he retired as CEO of Zappos earlier this summer. Tony, who made his initial fortune after selling his internet advertising company to Microsoft in 1998, died last week after being injured in a house fire in Connecticut.
He was 46 years old.
