When they come from Philadelphia tonight (October 6), AEW will be celebrating the second anniversary of Dynamite premiered on TNT in 2019.
Looks like Tony Khan has big plans for the show.
AEW’s president and reservation manager revealed it to PWInsider while promoting the episode in a new interview:
“… I’m going to have some funny announcements, and it will be a really special show.” And I can tell you right away, I have a huge announcement on the show. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and it should be just a really, really good wrestling night for Wednesday Night Dynamite, the second anniversary show.
What could it be? Khan has spoken quite a bit with Insider’s Mike Johnson about AEW’s deal with the Owen Hart Foundation, so it might be details of the Owen Hart Cup tournament that was established as part of this partnership. ?
TK also excited the unannounced participant at tonight’s Casino Ladder Match for a future AEW World Title show:
“I won’t give you any idea who the joker will be.” I’m not going to tell you that, but instead I’m going to go back to the announcement and tell you that it’s been something a long time coming. I’m very excited about it and proud of it and it’s really going to add a lot to the business I think.
So it looks like the wild card is related to Khan’s huge announcement? Johnson isn’t asking for clarification, so we’ll have to speculate while we wait for tonight’s show.
Author’s Note: I initially interpreted the second answer as linking the last Ladder Match competitor to the “huge announcement”, but others pointed out that Khan was probably passing the wildcard question to underline the “huge announcement” again. .
While you’re doing that, you can also check out PWInsider’s full interview with Tony Khan – where he also confirms Dave Meltzer’s report that he tightened AEW’s senior leadership structure at the end of 2019, and calls recent rumors of loss of power by executive vice presidents “quite dishonest” – here.
