Tony Rodham, the youngest brother of Hillary Clinton, has passed away, Clinton tweeted the Saturday. Clinton announced his death Friday night, but no cause of death has been revealed.
"It's hard to find words, my mind is inundated with memories of him today," Clinton tweeted. "When he entered a room, he laughed at him, he was kind, generous, and a wonderful husband for Megan and Zach's father, Simon and Fiona, and we will miss him very much."
Rodham, born in 1954, was the third child of Dorothy and Hugh Rodham. According to the Associated Press, he has held various jobs over the years, including as a prison warden, insurance salesman, repo agent, private investigator and commercial investor. He studied at Iowa Wesleyan College and at the University of Arkansas, but never graduated.
Rodham told Time magazine in 1999 that "being the brother-in-law of the most powerful man in the world" can go both ways.
"There are wonderful things that happened to me because of my relationship with Hillary and Bill, and there are some really terrible things that happened to me," Rodham told the magazine.
After the election of Bill Clinton, Rodham worked as a field organizer for the Democratic National Committee and he even married the White House to the daughter of former Senator Barbara Boxer, Nicole Boxer. .
But he and his other brother, Hugh, also became what Politico called "problem brothers and sisters." The White House publicly reprimanded them in 1999 for their business in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. A Homeland Security Department report from the Department of Homeland Security revealed that Rodham and Terry McAuliffe had insisted that the federal agency obtain visa clearance while Clinton was secretary of state, according to Politico.
During the 2015 and 2016 election campaign, Clinton often spoke fondly of his brothers.
"She loves her family more than anything," Clinton spokeswoman Nick Merrill told the New York Times in 2015. "Her brothers have always been there for her, and she will always be there for them."
