For a moment, it seemed almost ridiculous to think that a new Tool album was actually going to happen. The band talked about it and played new songs in concert, but for years, he continued to keep the tone very vague, to follow their fans and to contradict himself. Even when they announced the album, I wondered if it would really go as planned. And yet, here we are with a new Tool album in the world, as expected. This is their first experience for 13 years, and as is always the case when a beloved group has been waiting for so long, the reactions will be brutal. It's probably going to be hailed as a "masterpiece to dissect for years to come," or as a backtracking. (And in fact, to this day, critics have only been positive.) And especially when it's about a band like Tool, who writes long, deep songs – this album lasts longer. of 80 minutes – that it often takes a long time to dissect, it seems safe to assume that your initial reaction to Inoculum of fear may not be the same reaction that you have at five or ten years old. (I've heard it a few times before writing this review, and I listen to new things every time I listen.) If you do not like Inoculum of fear right away, you could change positions once all the insane hype has fallen. And even though he has so far received some very good reviews, it's not surprising that some fans can not go after this one. It's not like all other Tool albums. If you expected to bang your head with "Jambi" or "nema" scriptures, you are in the wrong place.
As we have already mentioned, Tool has often been poorly grouped with nude and alt metal cheesy groups, largely because they probably share more fans with naked metal bands than with Radiohead, for example. But Tool has always been much richer than the songs of Headbanger's Ball. their psychedelic and atmospheric parts make have more in common with Radiohead (or Pink Floyd or King Crimson) than with metal, so it makes sense that people like Parquet Courts bassist and Grimes are big fans. This album still had a pretty alt-metal side favorable to the radio to maintain Tool's status as a traditional rock strength, but Inoculum of fearthey do not seem to care if rock radio plays these songs or not. Especially with each song recording more than ten minutes, with the exception of instrumental psychedelic interludes that are dotted between some of the songs.
Inoculum of fear is Tool's most ambient album without sounding too sleepy and their most psychedelic album without the superior trippy sound. And even though these songs are far from being radio-friendly, and require daily adaptation and careful listening, more than any other Tool album, they are almost as catchy as Tool's greatest hits. The hypnotic riff and the satisfying chorus of the title track, the little "tire-like"MY"In" Pneuma ", the" warrior … "takes up" Invincible ", the circular guitar patterns of the pre-chorus of" Descending "- they are all about as tough as Tool's greatest hits. It's amazing to see how naturally long these songs are, they are not exhausting to listen to or drunk, they have more than 10 minutes each because they need a lot of time to get their message across, but they never go beyond their home – when you get to the metal album closest to "7empest", which is easily the most accessible song on the album, you will not feel like the climax Inoculum of fear had been building towards; it sounds more like a satisfying reminder of an already big show.
This may be true for Tool's album, but if in doubt, the styles of the four members are heard distinctly, and the four bring a level of musician well above average. Danny Carey's percussion is still thrilling and tribal, Adam Jones's guitar riffs and Justin Chancellor's basslines are mesmerizing, and Maynard's vocals keep you hooked even in the hottest parts. exhilarating and less accessible. It's one of those singers where people tend to like it or hate it, and if you like it, that brand-name smirk will suck you up. It's hard not to notice how technically the album works, but that does not seem to be the point.
