Apparently, not all beaches are created equal.

Or at least, that’s what Tripadvisor’s updated list of “25 Best Beaches” suggests, which ranks some of the most popular beach destinations in the world.

The travel planning and review website made its decision based on user responses left on Tripadvisor.com over the past 12 months, according to a press release on Tuesday.

In the Tripadvisor press release, 10 American beaches were highlighted for 2021. Five of them were in Hawaii and two in Florida.

Meanwhile, the West Coast got two places in the top 10 and the East Coast got one.

“Whether your favorite type of beach is slick and pristine or rugged and rugged, this list of travelers’ favorites is just the inspiration you need to plan your next beach vacation,” said Christine Maguire of Tripadvisor, vice-president. President and CEO of Global Corporate Media Commerce.

Top 10 beaches in the United States

1. Saint Pete Beach – St. Pete Beach, Florida

Tripadvisor says its users have found Saint Pete Beach to be a great place to watch the sunset and take small-group cruises.

2. Ka’anapali Beach – Lahaina, Hawaii

Tripadvisor says its users have rated Ka’anapali Beach as “beautiful” and “accessible”. Top rated activities here are snorkeling and whale watching.

3. Moonstone Beach – Cambria, California

Tripadvisor claims that its users primarily value Moonstone Beach for its beauty and availability of precious and semi-precious stones, including jade and moonstones. In addition to the treasure hunt, visitors here very much enjoyed the sunset cruises.

4. Wailea Beach – Wailea, Hawaii

Tripadvisor says its users wrote that Wailea Beach offers “stunning views of the Maui coast.” The main activities that visitors participated in were sea turtle tours.

5. Cannon Beach – Cannon Beach, Oregon

Tripadvisor says its users liked the tidal pools and sea creatures at Cannon Beach, which become visible at low tide at Haystack Rock. For this reason, guided beach trips were the most popular activity.

6. Napili Beach – Lahaina, Hawaii

Tripadvisor says its users have praised Napili Beach for the natural reef it has where marine life is easily seen. Whale watching from Lahaina Harbor was another flagship activity at this Hawaiian beach.

7. Ogunquit Beach – Ogunquit, Maine

Tripadvisor says its users were impressed with Ogunquit Beach at high tide, which would allow visitors to walk or swim hundreds of feet when the water is only waist level. Reviewers also loved exploring Perkins Cove, a small fishing community that offers scenic views and shopping opportunities.

8. Wai’anapanapa State Park – Hana, Hawaii

Tripadvisor claims its users love Wai’anapanapa State Park Beach for its “otherworldly” black sand. Tours of the once volcanic land are a top activity for beachgoers.

9. Madeira Beach – Madeira Beach, Florida

Tripadvisor says its users love Madeira Beach for its flat terrain and ease of walking. The beach is also popular for its dining options.

10. Kailua Beach Park – Kailua, Hawaii

Tripadvisor says its users have found Kailua Beach Park to be “less crowded” and a “good park”. The top rated activity here was a full day guided tour of nearby Mokulua Islands.

While the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges people to avoid non-essential travel during the pandemic, the health agency is not against beach visits.

Instead, the CDC advises Americans to exercise caution before visiting a public beach. Safety protocols the agency recommends include wearing face masks, sanitizing your hands regularly, and social distancing while avoiding large gatherings.
