STREAMTOWN – It's a new month. The summer is fast approaching, the all-star game of the Major League Baseball is over and America is a year older.
It also means new titles are streamed to your favorite platforms and I'm here to help you navigate them.
Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, you'll find some very good new titles, some of which are probably already known, others you did not know, were intended for streaming and other services you 'd like I had never even heard of it.
Here are the top 10 new streaming titles in July:
"Megamind" (Available now)
A good night of old-fashioned family cinema is always an advantage and, luckily, Netflix offers some new options, including "Megamind".
Personally, I think that "Megamind" is an underrated jewel of an animated film. In 2010, he was lost in the rush of another naughty animated film turned nasty called "Despicable Me," which is unfortunate, as this movie starring Brad Pitt's vocal talents, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill fun.
"Stranger things,"Season 3 (available now)
I'm not even sure I really need to come back to this question, since most of you have probably already started the third season, but I can not leave it off the list.
Hawkins' crew is back in the third season of "Stranger Things" and we are all looking forward to seeing what kind of laughs and frights this time.
"Mary Poppins is back" (Available now)
Here is another option for a good summer night for the family.
"Mary Poppins Returns" is now on Netflix and it's hard to find a more whimsical and magical movie streaming for the moment. The sequel to "Mary Poppins" has its flaws and streaks at times, but the movie is a lot of fun, Emily Blunt is almost perfect in every respect and is a great addition to the Netflix catalog.
"Big fish" (Available now)
I know Tim Burton is not everyone's cup of tea and I admit that his films are very random, but I think "Big Fish" is one of his most accessible and enjoyable films .
The film stars Ewan McGregor, a wonderfully charismatic character, and has one of the best father-son stories of all movies. The colors are beautiful, the acting great and the story captivating. This is a program that I will surely watch now because it is broadcast on Hulu.
"Dirty Spoundrels" (Available now)
With the incredibly disappointing "The Hustle" leaving a foul taste in my mouth, I'm too excited that "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is now on Hulu.
The comedy of com-man Steve Martin and Michael Caine is a classic with jokes that will let your sides separate. I saw the movie dozens of times and I was waiting for another viewing.
"Quigley Down Under" (Available now)
I do not want to embarrass my mother here, but she has always had an unhealthy obsession with Tom Selleck.
This obsession led me to see every episode of "Magnum PI" when I was a child and watching movies that no other child saw as "Runaway", "Lassiter" and "High Road" to China ".
But my favorite film starring Selleck was undoubtedly "Quigley Down Under".
The film "The Western Down" also stars Alan Rickman as a villain, and includes great action scenes and an always charming Selleck. To my delight and my mom's happiness, "Quigley Down Under" is now available on Hulu.
"Apollo 11"(July 20th)
This one may not be on the radar of many people, but the fact that the documentary "Apollo 11" is directed to Hulu is very exciting.
The film is already one of the pioneers to win the best documentary at the Oscars next year and is a fascinating journey in the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon.
The filmmakers have taken thousands of hours of footage and audio and have restored, edited and created this beautiful film representing one of the greatest achievements of humanity.
"True courage"(July 14th)
If Australian westerns do not suit you, but you normally like westerns, you're covered.
The 2010 True Grit remake of the Coen brothers is for Amazon Prime and is a great example of film making and how to redo a classic if you want to do it.
It was a delicate task to consider given the importance of the 1969 film and in particular the John Wayne's Academy Award-winning performance, but Coen managed to make updates in the right places, to make enough tribute to the original and to refresh it.
"Arctic"(July 31)
I just mentioned "Arctic" in my best article on 2019 movies and I'm happy to tell you that you'll be able to watch it on Amazon Prime later this month.
The film stars Mads Mikkelsen as a man who survived a plane crash in the Arctic and lives alone in the cold. I think that "the Arctic" will be hard sell for many, but this survival story is worthy of your time.
It's also a great way to calm down after the summer sun, as this movie will make you feel cold.
"Eight men out"(July 31)
The summer period is that of baseball, so why not watch a classic movie about the hobby of the United States?
"Eight Men Out" is a preview of the scandal of the 1919 World Series. The film enjoys an exceptional cast and manages to be a tense drama with great emotions. The film may seem a bit boring for some, but it's a theatrical look at one of the most famous and fascinating moments in the history of the sport.
John grew up around movies and annoys friends and family with his facts and knowledge about the movie. John also has a passion for the sport and almost everything that is great and it turns out that these are the three things he writes on.
