In a busy week devoted to new releases, it's Borderlands 3 that prevails after coming in at the top of the all-formats physical sales chart in the UK. The new 2K league shooter is ahead of Xbox One's exclusive Gears 5, and Konami's latest sports title, PES 2020, has to settle for # 2 and # 3, respectively.
The new titles push last week's winner, NBA 2K20, to 4th place this week, while sales manager Chart-Track places another new entry, Greedfall, in 5th place. The latest news entries for the week ending September 14th are Daemon X Machina at number 19 and NHL 20 at number 36.
It's worth noting that GamesIndustry.biz reports that Borderlands 3 is the biggest boxing game launch in 2019 in the UK – but that the game has also sold less than half of the physical copies of its predecessor, Borderlands 2, managed in 2012. Gears 5, meanwhile, sold only 25% of what Gears of War 4 had handled during its own launch week.
However, it should be noted that digital sales – which generally continue to increase – are not counted in official tables, while Microsoft exclusives are now available at no additional cost with Xbox Game Pass. Finally, GamesIndustry.biz indicates that sales in the first week of PES 2020 increased by 18.5% compared to last year's match.
