Top Gear scrapped their £ 1million wall of death, after using the structure for just 16 minutes on the BBC show.

Last month, Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris were all shown taking turns driving cars around the nearly vertical structure at 50 miles per hour.

However, The Sun is now reporting that the Wall of Death, located at Alexandra Palace in London, was dismantled as the final series came to an end last week.

With the publication estimating the costs of building and materials for the wall at £ 1million, that would mean the expenditure amounts to £ 62,500 per minute of airtime, or £ 1,041 per second.

A source said: ‘The wall of death has been scrapped. Now people know where their TV license money is going. It was actually quite heartbreaking to demolish everything.

Contacted by MailOnline, a representative for the show said: ‘Top Gear is produced and jointly funded by BBC Studios, the production and commercial distribution arm of the BBC, with the show being sold and broadcast worldwide. ..

“ The Wall of Death was a specially designed set for the new series that was responsibly recycled after the wall was dismantled. ”

Last month, Freddie was seen attempting to pull off a gravity-defying stunt on the series, when he took a Maserati insurance void on the death wall.

The 42-year-old former cricketer will try his hand at driving along the purpose-built wall as his stunned co-stars Paddy McGuinness, 47, and Chris Harris, 45, watched the octane action raised from above.

Before Freddie got ready for the mad rush, Chris told Paddy: “ I think he has the worst vehicle for that, a mile. I’m worried about what this will do on the top bank at sustained speed.

In keeping with his sentiment, Paddy added, “ I mean, I crossed everything so that nothing would go wrong with him, but it’s just not a good look. ”

Wearing a hard hat, Freddie was quickly seen starting his laps on the wall, describing it as a ‘completely different experience’.

As his laps continued and he reached a speed of 49mph, he said: “ I can feel the weight of the car. He just wants to get off the wall. It’s completely different from the buggy.

Paddy, Freddie and Chris were convinced they had found a way to pack performance cars on the cheap by each purchasing a sports insurance cancellation for under £ 6,000.

They first experienced a trio of challenges on the Top Gear test track – including the inaugural Car Park Musical Chairs game where they met Britain’s most daring drivers, the Stig’s Teenage Cousins.

The presenters were then ordered to make their cars legal and report to Alexandra Palace, where Top Gear producers have built a monstrous wall of death.
