In this week's best articles: Google launches a beta version of its Messages app on Android, the Pixel 3 enjoys a significant reduction from the Google Store, Nest stops supporting the service Wear OS and Apple Watch, and more.

Many Google apps, including the basic Google Search app, offer public beta testing that allows volunteer participants to use unstable software in exchange for quick access to new features. This week, Google opened a beta test program for Messages, its SMS application also used in the UK and France to bypass operators and provide RCS functionality.

After a few days of waiting, Google has provided the first beta of Messages on Android. However, this first beta version of Google Messages focused on "less than stable," because it simply crashed on all the androids that received the update. Since then, Google has corrected this problem and introduced a newer beta.

Just like on other apps, Google Messages runs its beta program through the Google Play Store. This means that there are two ways to access it. First, there is a direct link that you can access here. Otherwise, the Play Store for Google Messages on your Android device should indicate an option to participate in the beta program at the bottom of the list.

The Google Store has offered one of its stiffest discounts on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL this week. Some customers received a modest discount of $ 200, while others were promised a higher discount code of $ 300. However, there was some confusion during the process as the $ 300 discount emails contained an invalid promotional code.

The next day, Google sent a second corrected e-mail to those who met the requirements to receive the largest discount. This promotion would last until the end of the month. So be sure to check the promotional code in your inbox.

This is one of Google's most generous offerings for a phone that has not been sold as well as its predecessor and is actively obscured. It faces the competition of Pixel 3a mid-range, while the Pixel 4 comes later this year.

The latest update of the Nest app for Android and iOS has released new versions of the Wear Wear program and watchOS companion apps. In both cases, the update ended the functionality of the Nest portable app. Hopefully, this removal will help Google Nest improve its remaining applications and control methods.

According to Google, "only a small number of people" were using surveillance applications, with Nest focusing on complete mobile clients and Assistant now evolving. The latter option is only available to Wear OS users, while Apple Watch owners have no luck with wrist controls.

The official announcement of the Galaxy Note 10 is only in a few weeks, which means that this is the perfect time for leakage of the device. New renders of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 appeared this week, confirming the details we had seen and suspected, such as the Holepunch notch and the lack of headphone jack.

Beyond that, these renderings also show a new gradient color variant. Apparently, this will be marketed as a "silver" variant, but the colors used clearly fit into the trendy color we've seen recently at Huawei. Presumably, this is based on the Galaxy S10's "Prism Silver" color variant that debuted in some regions this year.

Our Damien Wilde reviewed this week Xiaomi's direct competitor at Google Pixel 3a, the Mi 9 SE. While Xiaomi devices have limited support and availability in the US, Mi 9 SE appears to be a serious competitor, especially for its price.

For me, the mid-range is where almost every real innovation and value must be had. All leading technologies are found in devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. That means you get the best of both worlds – great design, solid performance and great value.

In Wear OS, essential hardware innovations could finally be made to the platform. Qualcomm is reportedly preparing a new Snapdragon Wear chip, currently known as Snapdragon Wear 429, which will improve the efficiency, battery life and performance of Wear OS.

This new chip benefits from significant upgrades to the current platform on which Qualcomm's portable chips are based. This includes four Cortex-A53 cores that support 64 bits and potentially a higher clock speed. The Snapdragon 429 in smartphones can reach 2.0 GHz. The platforms being tested have combined this chipset with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, doubling the specifications of most current Wear OS watches.
