Officials from the National Meteorological Service confirmed that a tornado had hit Hall County early Friday morning.
The tornado formed around 5:50 am and was on the ground for about two and a half miles, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said on Saturday.
The tornado winds reached a speed of 90 mph. This is an EF-1 tornado, Walls said.
Channel 2 's Richard Elliot reported Friday that the storm had ravaged a belfry near the Dewberry Baptist Church north of Gainesville and sent a tree to crush it in the lobby. church. No injuries have been reported.
Thunderstorms caused damage in the subways of Atlanta and North Georgia, including felled trees and power lines, floods and destroyed roads.
In Gwinnett County, an abyss has washed away a portion of the scenic route, blocking a northbound turn lane near Henry Clower Boulevard. Crews are supposed to repair the hole this week.
Gwinnett firefighters reacted Friday to many storm-related emergencies, said department spokesman Captain Tommy Rutledge.

Just after 5 am, a tree fell on a building of Peachtree Corners' Columns Apartments in Block 900 of Concepts 21 Drive, near Peachtree Corners.
The teams found a large pine tree that broke in half and fell on part of the building and on the parking lot. Tree branches have entered the roof and wall of an apartment, Rutledge explained.
People were inside the apartment at the time. One person, an adult, was assessed and released at the scene by paramedics for a minor injury claim, officials said. No other injuries have been reported.
At Peachtree City, a gulf formed at the southeastern corner of the intersection of Ga. 54 and Ga. 74. A right turn lane was closed at the time.
