FRANKLIN COUNTY, Virginia (WFXR) – Fear and terror were felt when a tornado ripped through parts of Franklin County on Friday morning.

The residents of Windy Ridge Road were worried about Delores Anderson. Anderson went to his basement just before the tornado ripped his house.

"We were talking on the phone and she told Debbie that I think I have to go downstairs," said Debbie Meeks.

Meeks held back her tears as she answered her phone call with her sister, Delores Anderson.

"I saw the wind getting up and I said it was time to leave. I listened to them on TV and they told me to go into your basement and I went there, "Anderson said.

She told WFXR News that a few seconds later, her house was torn. The roof was torn off and the walls were washed away.

"I covered myself with a blanket and pillows and I felt the sweat up and it was trying to suck me too," Anderson said.

The whole test lasted about two minutes and she came out without a scratch.

Later in the day, his friends, family, and neighbors rushed to save whatever they could.

"All my friends and neighbors are wonderful. I'm happy to have them all, "Anderson said, adding," I thank them all. I thank God too.

Many clean-up people told WFXR News that this was the worst storm they had ever seen in Franklin County. They are happy to have taken the warning about the tornado seriously.

"When they warn you, you have to do what they say because I never thought it would happen to my sister," Meeks said.

"Enter the basement, do what they tell you to do," Anderson said.

"If I had not been, I would have been sitting on this couch, I would not have been there to talk about it."

Anderson stays with his family. The people who helped clean the house could save the photos and other memories they could.
