Tornadoes sighted in Oakland, Macomb counties

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – At least three separate tornadoes were sighted near the Detroit metro area on Saturday evening, during an already full day of severe weather statewide.

At around 8:02 p.m., a confirmed tornado was spotted over Armada, near Richmond, moving northeast at 20 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

A second confirmed tornado in Macomb County was located over Memphis at 8:14 p.m., moving in the same direction and at the same speed, the National Weather Service said.

A tornado warning has been issued for the region until 8:30 p.m.

In Oakland County, a tornado was spotted at 8:02 p.m. near Clarkston, eight miles west of Pontiac, moving east at 15 miles per hour.

Other places on the way to this tornado storm include Bloomfield Hills, Rochester Hills, Keego Harbor, Waterford, Bloomfield Township, White Lake, Clawson, Sylvan Lake, Auburn Hills and Lake Angelus, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado warning will remain in effect until 8:45 p.m.

The NWS advises those in the path of the tornado to move to a basement or interior room on the ground floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. People outside are advised to move to the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.

A tornado warning was issued for northeastern Huron County late Saturday afternoon, and the NWS reported sightings of a tornado and waterspout along the shores of Lake Huron.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. for Southeast Michigan.
