Tower Records, the music chain that closed its 89 stores in 2006, is relaunched as an online store, reports Bay Area ABC7. The new website also features scheduled live concerts, as well as a digital version of the company’s in-house magazine. Pulse of the tower!

According to ABC7, the relaunch was born out of interrupted plans to set up pop-up stores at this year’s South by Southwest Music Festival. Following SXSW’s COVID-19 cancellation, Tower Records opted to virtually relaunch the store.

Tower Records opened in 1960 in Sacramento, California. In 2004, the chain’s parent company declared bankruptcy, shutting down all physical sites two years later. In 2018, Tower Records founder Russ Solomon passed away at the age of 92.
