According to the press release, Subaru "will become a Toyota affiliate". The company that is behind the Impreza will buy Toyota shares worth 80 billion yen ($ 741 million).
The expanded association follows a similar agreement announced in June regarding the joint development of a new platform dedicated to battery electric vehicles. The two will also work together on a new pure electric vehicle utilizing Toyota's electrification technology and Subaru's all-wheel drive know-how that will form the basis of the jointly developed architecture.
Details about the next 86 / BRZ were not disclosed, but a Toyota chief engineer recently said the 86th generation of 86 would be better to drive than the Supra.
