Toyota GR Yaris AWD Hot Hatch Gets 0-60mph in 5.3 Seconds

There is no denying that the Toyota GR Yaris is one of the purest cars on the market today. Yes you can’t buy it if you live in the US but for those of you who live across the pond we envy you because it is basically a rally car for the road. And we love raw sports cars.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean the car is quick in all kinds of tests. While absolutely brilliant, the six-speed manual gearbox doesn’t exactly help in offline sprints, for example. In addition, there is no launch control.

But with a mix of low weight (1280 kilograms / 2822 pounds), high horsepower (257 horsepower) and an all-wheel drive system, the GR Yaris definitely looks like a real hot hatch. On paper, it should be able to travel 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) from a standstill in about five seconds. The maximum speed is electronically capped at 230 km / h.

But how does it work in the real world? Carwow was looking for answers when Mat Watson got the GR Yaris for a test. In the video above you can check out his full review of the pocket rocket, but we want to focus on when he tries to replicate the factory numbers from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 100 km / h).

In fact, its gadgets are tuned to record acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 96 km / h). And the numbers, while not completely what Toyota says, are good – 5.31 seconds. Yes, we know there are much faster cars out there, but keep in mind this one has a three cylinder engine, manual gearbox, and no throttle control.

Can you name a better little hot hatch? The comments section below is yours. We can wait.
