As more and more cars add support for Apple's CarPlay infotainment platform, older car owners are often forced to look for alternatives. However, Toyota is starting the process of upgrading some 2018 cars with CarPlay and Amazon Alexa.

according to Car and driverToyota is offering owners of the 2018 Camry Sedan and the 2018 Sienna Minivan the option of adding CarPlay to their car. For now, these are the only two vehicles that Toyota will modernize with CarPlay and Alexa support. The automaker says it will bring technology to "some of its most popular vehicles already on the road".

Toyota has announced that it will contact the Camry and Sienna owners and encourage them to "contact their dealer" for the modernization to be completed. The company did not specify the duration of the process, nor the type of cost associated with the upgrade. Toyota noted, however, that there may be "small service charges" associated with the update:

Toyota says it will warn the owners of Camry and Sienna and "will encourage them to contact their dealer" about modernization; the installation will be done at dealerships. We asked Toyota to ask if the redevelopment would cost anything and a spokeswoman for the brand said that there could be "minimal service fees" and that dealers would be able to provide more # 39; information. Toyota does not say how long it will actually take to complete the installation.

Toyota was late for the CarPlay game, announcing last year that the feature film would be offered to three of its 2019. Given this delay, it's good to see Toyota adapt CarPlay to at least some of its cars 2018.

Toyota is not the first automaker to adapt CarPlay support to its older vehicles. Last year, Mazda announced that it would expand CarPlay support to cars starting in 2014. It charges a $ 199 upgrade fee for the process.

If you want to add CarPlay to your vehicle, there are a handful of alternatives. Read our full summary here.
