It was only a matter of time, really.

The future Toyota GR Supra is designed from the ground up to be a mobile playground for the world of tuning. It was a topic that we tackled late last week and, as if from watchmaking, Toyota's TRD performance division had returned the favor by unveiling a new carbon-friendly kit for the fifth-generation sports coupe .

As you can see, the main theme of the kit is carbon fiber.

The lightweight material, in all its splendor, is used to form a much more aggressive body kit. The front splitter is wider and extends farther along its sides, making it a windshield for the front wheels.

On the side, the large side skirts have similar aerodynamic benefits in case of turbulence around the rear wheels. In addition, there is a new carbon fiber strip under each door; perhaps to try to fool the spectators at a distance, as this almost looks like a huge air (especially when it is associated with a contrasting color like yellow).

Finally, there is the rear diffuser in carbon fiber and the rear wing; at once bigger and more impetuous than most cars targeted by the Supra, like the Porsche Cayman.

In addition to the benefits in terms of aerodynamics or weight, the kit will reduce the overall ride height. The rear overhang is particularly reduced, with a decrease of 24 mm.

A friend of speed bumps, this car certainly is not.

The other announced TRD addition is a new set of 19-inch forged aluminum spiffy wheels. The multi-spoke beasties help reduce rolling resistance, while giving the Supra a more intimidating presence on the street.

Most of these small changes will be familiar to Supra Anoraks. Many of these pieces were simply removed from the Toyota line of performance concept they unveiled in February at the Chicago Auto Show. The pieces themselves are currently exclusive in Japan … but do not expect this to last long.
