As electric cars become more and more popular around the world, there is a renewable energy source that could make them even more practical and environmentally friendly: the sun.
The Japanese auto giant Toyota has teamed up with a local energy company to test a Prius hybrid vehicle that is almost entirely covered with solar panels, the source said. Bloomberg. The ambitious goal is to end one day the dependence of the car on the charging stations.

Toyota and Hyundai have already released models, including the 2017 Prius, equipped with solar panels on the roof, but their ability to power the vehicle is extremely limited because they only charge the batteries when the vehicle is parked.
Since July, Toyota has been working on a brand new design. It features special solar panels, much higher efficiency, mounted on the hood, roof and even the sedan of the car, charging the batteries of the car even in motion.

The new solar system could allow the Prius to travel 50 kilometers, four days a week, only through solar energy. Bloomberg reports.
If the vehicle comes on the market, it will not be the only next-generation solar vehicle available. Dutch start-up Lightyear has revealed what it calls the world's first long-range "solar car" in June. The company plans to begin deliveries early in 2021.
