Trachenberg Walks Needs A New Director Uncharted – / Movie

Like an ancient artefact or a lost city, the film adaptation of the popular Unexplored video game series continues to prove elusive. Director Dan Trachtenberg left the film eight months after his signature, making him the last of a long line of filmmakers to abandon this expedition.

Deadline announced the news. Specific details on Trachtenberg's departure remain unknown, but this is the second major media reshuffle for Sony Pictures. Just a few days ago, Sony ended its deal with Disney for sharing the character of Spider-Man, a deeply unpopular decision on the Internet. Since the Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland is also about to play the role of Nathan Drake Unexplored film, it will be interesting to see if this particular relationship is solid or crumbling.

In the famous series of games, Nathan Drake is an explorer and criminal with a quick wit and a gold heart that travels the world in search of a treasure. Naturally, it means all kinds of actions, adventures and shootings with people who hurt him. The current iteration of the film is supposed to be a prelude to the games, with Holland playing an inexperienced young Drake.

It may have been too good to be true. Trachtenberg, the filmmaker in the making 10 Cloverfield Lane and episodes of The boys and Black mirror, felt like a perfect fit for Unexplored, a franchise that perfectly combines the old school, Indiana JonesThrills with modern sensibilities. This certainly helped that Trachtenberg be a recognized player, from a younger generation of filmmakers who are familiar with the video game properties that Hollywood continues to try to put on the big screen. And frankly, it's been too long since Trachtenberg made a feature film and 10 Cloverfield Lane is the kind of debut that requires follow up.

For the moment, Trachtenberg joins Shawn Levy, Joe Carnahan, David O. Russell, Neil Burger and Seth Gordon on the list of filmmakers who were once attached to Unexplored on the big screen. The big question is not whether Unexplored is done (because someone will drag it to the finish line), but how it will look when finished. Because it's a very wild list of filmmakers with very different sensibilities.

A few months ago, Sony programmed Uncharted for a December 18, 2020 release date. In search of a new director, it remains to be seen if the film will respect this date or if it will be postponed again. After all, the first article on this project / movie comes from 2010. They could just as well wait and make a decade of delays at this stage, just for the trivia factor.
