The slow rollout of Covid-19 vaccines will prolong the much-hoped-for recovery in travel demand until mid- and late summer, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun said on Wednesday.

The aircraft manufacturer posted a record annual net loss for 2020, as the pandemic prompted airlines to suspend or cut plans to add new jets to their fleets. Governments around the world have put strict travel restrictions in place in 2020, and potential passengers have given up on vacation and business travel.

“I think we were all hoping the vaccine distribution would go a little easier,” Calhoun said in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street”.

Calhoun said he expects demand for leisure and business travel to be robust once people are vaccinated again, but the process will take several more months.
