SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – Health officials issued a warning on Tuesday after declaring that an international traveler to Silicon Valley could have exposed thousands of locals to measles. Stanford, the Apple Visitor Center and several popular restaurants.
The adult visitor was not identified by name, but health officials published a long list of places in Santa Clara County where the person visited during a recent stay in the valley.
The patient is an adult exposed to measles abroad and not in the San Francisco Bay Area. They were hospitalized, officials said, because of their illness. Additional information about the person will not be disclosed for reasons of confidentiality.

"People who are not immune to measles and who have visited the sites below at the dates and times listed are at risk of getting measles from exposure," the authorities warned.
"People on these sites who are not immune to measles can run the risk of contracting measles and must monitor the symptoms of the disease," the warning continues. "Common symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and rash, which can appear 7 to 21 days after exposure."
Health officials have stated that if you develop these symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

"The good news is that most residents of Santa Clara County have been vaccinated and protected against measles," said Dr. Sara Cody, County Health Officer and Director of the Department of Public Health. "However, if you or a family member is not immune to measles and you think you have been exposed to measles, keep a close watch on fever, cough, red eyes, the runny nose and a rash that starts in the face. Call your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms. "
The infected traveler was in Santa Clara from March 16th to 23rd.

This case of measles is not related to the group of three cases in the Washington Bay area earlier this month, officials said.
