At least nine people were injured early Saturday morning when gunfire was fired at a crowd in front of a bar in Trenton, officials said.
Police were informed of a gunshot around 12:25 pm Saturday in front of the bar, the Ramoneros Liquor and Bar on Brunswick Avenue. The officers who responded found several victims in and around the bar, the authorities said.
Santiago Melli-Huber, a spokesman for the Trenton Mayor's Office, said that a total of nine people had been shot dead and that another person had been slightly injured during the shooting.
This is the second major mass shot in Trenton over the last year. In June, 22 people were injured after an armed man opened fire at a 24-hour art festival. 17 of them were shot dead, others injured by trampling. A person is dead.
"Unfortunately, gun violence is very common on the streets of Trenton," City Councilor Jerell Blakeley said Saturday, citing a recent wave of shooting, including four murders.
"I call on all levels of government in Trenton to work together to develop a comprehensive plan to combat this scourge," he said. "The inhabitants of the city of Trenton must be protected."
