Trevor Lawrence launches today because ‘he has nothing to hide’

Welcome Trevor Lawrence Friday.

Clemson’s QB, and presumption No. 1 overall in this spring’s draft, will pitch today for NFL coaches and scouts. Lawrence is hosting a professional first day so he can have labrum surgery on his non-throwing shoulder and be ready for workouts this summer.

The Path to the draft Special, presented by Verizon, airs on NFL Network at 10 p.m. ET today.

Jane Slater of NFL Network reported on Hello football that Lawrence will report around 9 a.m. to get measurements (height, weight, hand size, etc.) and then begin a scripted throwing session around 10 a.m. ET.

Why is Lawrence pitching when he almost certainly goes No. 1 overall in Jacksonville?

Former NFL QB Jordan Palmer, who works with Lawrence, told SI.com’s Albert Breer the best prospect since Andrew Luck pitched just because he loves competition.

“The reason he wants to pitch is that he loves the ball and has nothing to hide,” said Palmer, who will be leading the Pro Day session. “” They want me to throw, I’ll throw. Yeah, I’ll throw it for everyone. It looks great. For him he could sit there and say, ‘I don’t and here’s why. And you have to understand where I’m from too, my brother. [Carson] was the sure-fire # 1 pick, without a doubt he played in the Senior Bowl and threw the combine, because, “Give me a ball.” I would love to compete. ” I have nothing to hide. I love to throw.

“Trevor is the same kind of guy. He loves competition, has nothing to hide, confident when they come and loves doing it. It’s really easy for him. It wasn’t even a discussion.”

The other plus: we have something to watch and discuss on an otherwise sleepy Friday in February.

The Jaguars use the extra time to watch Lawrence in action, sending a contingent to South Carolina this morning
