Trial of Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos: news, updates and more

[ad_1]

Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO of disgraced blood testing company Theranos, is on trial on 12 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The trial is expected to last until December.

Theranos was valued at $ 9 billion and Holmes was a Silicon Valley darling, sporting black turtlenecks that prompted comparisons to Steve Jobs. That is, until John Carreyrou’s talk was published in The Wall Street Journal. In that article, Carreyrou wrote that Theranos was only using its own device for a handful of tests and that other employees were concerned that the device was not accurate.

Then it emerged that Theranos’ labs were falling short and its partnerships with Safeway and Walgreens fell apart. Plus, Theranos threw away the two-year test results. Eventually, Holmes was banned from operating laboratories and Theranos was disbanded in 2018. Now the question is whether Holmes deliberately misled patients and investors.
