Trinity Rodman, daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, was selected with the second pick in the National Women’s Soccer League Draft by the Washington Spirit on Wednesday.

Rodman, 18, is a star of the American youth football team. She helped the United States win the CONCACAF 2020 Women’s Under-20 title, scoring nine goals in the tournament, including two in the final. She was supposed to play at university for Washington state, but the season has been moved to spring due to the pandemic.

She decided to relaunch her professional career.

Rodman said that after being drafted she wanted to carve out her own heritage and be known as someone other than “Dennis Rodman’s daughter.”
