PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG / WECP) – Tropical Storm Fred is expected to make landfall over the NWFL today as a tropical storm. As of this morning, Fred has sustained winds of 60 mph with a forward speed of 10 mph. The rain started along the coast this morning, but the winds still haven’t picked up. Conditions will deteriorate during the day. Landing is scheduled for tonight with winds of 60 mph.
Here is an overview of the impacts we expect …
1. Winds – 35-45 mph sustained, but gusts over 50 mph
2. 4-8 ″ of rain
3. 1-3 ′ of storm surge, but the good news is that the landing will likely be at low tide.
4. A small chance of tornadoes in the bands around Fred
