NASSAU, Sept. 13 (Reuters) – The tip of a potential tropical storm has brought rain and wind to the Bahamas on Friday morning, complicating the search for 1,300 people missing in the wake of the worst hurricane in the world. the island nation, as well as the efforts deployed relief to the survivors.
A tropical storm warning was in effect in most of the northwestern Bahamas, including the islands of Great Abaco and Grand Bahama, said the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC). These islands were ravaged when Hurricane Dorian tore the archipelago during a Category 5 storm two weeks ago.
Early Friday, the tropical disturbance occurred 375 km east-southeast of Freeport, on the island of Grand Bahama, as it was heading north. West with 30 mph winds.
It was expected that the storm would produce two to four inches of rain on the islands, where the mighty and slow Dorian had ripped off the roofs of thousands of dwellings and dropped to two feet. rain. In some areas, the new storm could drop up to 6 inches of rain until Sunday, said the NHC, but no storm surge was expected.

The storm is expected to pick up speed as it moves into northwest Friday and could hit Florida on Saturday, he said.
In Florida, a tropical storm watch was in effect for parts of the east-central coast early Friday. South Florida could receive tropical storm winds as early as Friday night, the NHC announced.
The tropical cyclone should in no way approach the devastation of Dorian, which hit the Bahamas on September 1 in the form of a Category 5 storm. It was one of the most violent hurricanes in the Atlantic to hit the lander, carrying sustained winds of 298 km / h.
According to the Bahamas government, 1,300 people are still missing. Relief services focus on search and rescue, as well as on the provision of food, water and shelter.
Help groups sent shelter materials to residents living in the old houses.
"We are seeing plastic sheeting pouring into all the islands, which is extremely important as we now have another tropical storm," said Ken Isaacs, vice president of programs at the American Samaritan relief organization & # 39; Purse.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to the Bahamas on Friday and Saturday to meet with those affected by the hurricane and the humanitarian teams assisting them. He planned to meet Prime Minister Hubert Minnis in Nassau.
On Wednesday, the Minnis declared that the official number of dead was 50 but that their number should increase. He said he was trying to remove the "bureaucratic hurdles" in bringing aid to areas where devastation had made it difficult for rescue teams.
Former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham said that he thought "hundreds" of people would have died in Abaco "and a significant number in Grand Bahama," the Nassau Guardian newspaper reported Thursday.
Authorities erected large tents in Nassau to house the homeless in Dorian. They plan to build tent camps on Abaco to house up to 4,000 people.
