Troy Shafer, a famous Nashville house restorer and host of the DIY Network series "Nashville Flipped", died unexpectedly at age 38 in April.

Shafer moved to Nashville in 2005 with the aspirations of country music, he told Tennessean in 2016, but was struggling to find a stable job. Fervent fan of Elvis Presley and Huey Lewis, he has produced locally with composer Billy Falcon.

Shafer found his way to renovation and restoration in 2009, returning a $ 31,000 home in East Nashville with his father, a home builder. He then started his own local home improvement company, Nashville Flipped.

A chance meeting with "American Pickers" co-host Mike Wolfe in a Wal-Mart in Nashville led Shafer to air on television, he said.
